After\u00a096 years\u00a0of\u00a0faithful\u00a0Service,\u00a0God\u00a0gently\u00a0led\u00a0her\u00a0to\u00a0heaven\u00a0Sister\u00a0Leonardine\u00a0Sconzert, n\u00e9e Marcella\u00a0Rose, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

After\u00a096 years\u00a0of\u00a0faithful\u00a0Service,\u00a0God\u00a0gently\u00a0took\u00a0Sister\u00a0Leonardine\u00a0Sconzert\u2019s\u00a0hands\u00a0and led\u00a0her\u00a0to\u00a0heaven\u00a0on\u00a0September\u00a05\u00a0at\u00a08:15\u00a0pm.\u00a0Her\u00a0hands,\u00a0which\u00a0had\u00a0spent\u00a0a\u00a0lifetime serving,\u00a0comforting,\u00a0and\u00a0caring\u00a0for\u00a0others,\u00a0now\u00a0rast\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0loving\u00a0hands\u00a0of\u00a0God.\u00a0Sister Emerencia\u00a0and\u00a0Mary\u00a0Kately\u00a0were\u00a0with\u00a0her\u00a0as she\u00a0passed\u00a0away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born\u00a0on April\u00a09,\u00a01930,\u00a0in\u00a0Luxemburg,\u00a0Wisconsin,\u00a0and\u00a0named Marcella\u00a0Rose,\u00a0she\u00a0was\u00a0the daughter\u00a0of\u00a0Peter\u00a0and\u00a0Caroline\u00a0M.\u00a0(Finendael)\u00a0Sconzert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\u00a01944,\u00a0she\u00a0enrolled\u00a0in\u00a0St.\u00a0Joseph\u2019s\u00a0Academy,\u00a0Green\u00a0Bay,\u00a0Wisconsin,\u00a0and\u00a0worked\u00a0at\u00a0St.Vincent\u00a0Hospital\u00a0after\u00a0school.\u00a0She\u00a0lived\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0girls\u2019\u00a0home\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0hospital,\u00a0and\u00a0through\u00a0the example\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Sisters\u00a0and\u00a0prayer,\u00a0she\u00a0became\u00a0increasingly\u00a0certain\u00a0that\u00a0God\u00a0was\u00a0calling her\u00a0to\u00a0religious\u00a0life.\u00a0At\u00a0just\u00a015 years\u00a0of\u00a0age,\u00a0she\u00a0answered\u00a0that\u00a0call and\u00a0entered\u00a0the\u00a0Hospital\u00a0Sisters\u00a0of\u00a0St.\u00a0Francis\u00a0on\u00a0September\u00a08,\u00a01945,\u00a0and she\u00a0professed first\u00a0vows\u00a0on\u00a0October\u00a04,\u00a01948.\u00a0Her\u00a0education\u00a0and\u00a0formation\u00a0continued\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Novitiate,where\u00a0she\u00a0completed\u00a0high\u00a0school.\u00a0She\u00a0graduated\u00a0from\u00a0St.\u00a0John\u2019s\u00a0Hospital\u00a0School\u00a0ofNursing\u00a0in\u00a01954\u00a0and\u00a0eamed\u00a0a\u00a0bachelor\u2019s\u00a0degree\u00a0in\u00a0nursing\u00a0from\u00a0Marillac\u00a0College\u00a0in\u00a01972.She served\u00a0in\u00a0nursing\u00a0in\u00a0Sheboygan,\u00a0Effingham,\u00a0Eau\u00a0Claire,\u00a0Chicago,\u00a0and\u00a0Streator,\u00a0alongwith\u00a0ministry\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0FAC\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0House\u00a0of\u00a0Prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Boniface, Harry,Harvey, Hilary, Roy, Wilbert, and William; and sisters: Bernice DeMuth, Flavia Sconzert, and Harriet Schilke. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A beautiful thread runs through Sister Leonardine’s life: her hands. First, her hands were hands of healing. As a nurse, she used them to comfort those who were sick. As a driver, she provided transportation to her Sisters throughout the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second her hands were hands that created beauty. She was blessed with the art of cross-stitch, and she created gifts for her family, Jubilarians, and Christmas Ornaments – small reminders of love with each stitch. Third, her hands were hands of humble Service.In her later years of ministry, she continued Jesus\u2019 healing ministry as she cared for the feet of her Sisters. There is profound meaning in this ministry. Jesus knelt before His disciples and washed their feet, giving an example of humility, love, and servant leadership. Sister Leonardine followed that example. Her hands cared for the feet of her Sisters – feet that were the foundation upon which ministry was lived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful ways to remember Sister Leonardine: herhands expressed what was in her heart. Her life reminds us that a vocation is notmeasured only by the titles we hold or the places where we serve. It is measured by thelove we give, the lives we touch, and the faithfolness with which we answer God\u2019s calleach day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May her example inspire us to serve with humility, to create beauty, and to care for oneanother with tendemess. May she rest in peace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
