Sister M. Christhild

In the final hours of Sunday, our merciful God called our fellow Sister to Him, Sister M. Christhild, née Juliane Gevers, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.

Now, Lord, let your servant depart in peace, for my eyes have seen salvation.

Two months after the death of her biological sister, Sister M. Edelbertis, God also called Sister M. Christhild to Himself.

Born in Vreden-Döhren, Juliane attended school and earned her middle school diploma there. After joining our Congregation, she completed her nursing training and became a medical technical assistant. She worked in the X-ray departments in Gladbeck and Datteln. Sister M. Christhild is best known and most appreciated for her many years of service in the administration of the Motherhouse in Munster, where she supported the entire community. There, she managed our pensions and handled correspondence with the health insurance company with meticulous accuracy.

In 2022, Sister M. Christhild moved to St. Heriburg House Nursing Home, where she was able to enjoy her well-earned retirement years as a senior Sister. Since 2025, she had been a resident of Clara Station, where she felt very much at home. However, a few days ago she suddenly became seriously ill and was admitted to hospital for treatment. On Sunday evening, she passed away peacefully at St Francis Hospital, returning to God to whom she had entrusted her life 64 years ago when she took her vows.

We gratefully bid farewell to Sister M. Christhild. In prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist, we remember her and her sister, Sister M. Edelbertis, remaining united with them both in sisterly love. On Thursday, August 13, 2026, we will bid farewell to Sister M. Christhild at the Resurrection Service at 10 a.m. in the Motherhouse Church and then accompany her to her final resting place in the Sisters’ Cemetery.
