Sister M. Doloris

For 95 years she praised God and served Him with great joy. Then the Lord of Heaven called to Himself our dear Sister M. Doloris, née Maria Jaske, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.

“Praise and bless my Lord, and give Him thanks, and serve Him with great humility.”

Maria Jaske came to the Motherhouse in Münster from Brögbern, near Lingen. She followed her older sister, Sister M. Angelista, into the convent and took the religious name Sister M. Doloris.

After passing her nursing exam in 1958, she worked at the former Waldniel hospital for several years. Many of us know her as the ward nurse on the surgical ward for our Sisters. From 1973 to 1997, she cared for and lovingly looked after many of her fellow Sisters there, as well as introducing novices and young Sisters to the beautiful profession of nursing. She then moved to St. Anna-Stift in Kroge, where she cared for elderly Sisters and accompanied many of them until their death. She dedicated almost her entire religious life to serving her fellow Sisters who were ill and in need of care. She deserves our great thanks and respect for this.

Sister M. Doloris was a down-to-earth and pragmatic Sister for whom no task was too great and no distance too far when it came to caring for her fellow Sisters.

In recent years, as her strength got weaker, the sisters and staff at Kroge cared for her just as lovingly as she had cared for her fellow Sisters in the past. So now, in the presence of her fellow sisters, she was able to give her long life back to God.

We thankfully bid farewell to Sister M. Doloris. In prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist, we remember her with gratitude and remain sisterly connected to her.

On Monday, March 9, 2026, we will celebrate the Resurrection Mass for Sister M. Doloris at 2.30 p.m. in the convent church in Kroge. Afterwards, we will accompany her to her final resting place at the Kroger forest cemetery.
