God, the Good Shepherd, to whom she had entrusted her life, called our Sister to be with Him for all eternity: Sister M. Valcaria, née Angela Bußmann, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
(Psalm 23)
Sister M. Valcaria, a native of the Hümmling region, joined our Congregation at the age of twenty-three. She was born in Gehlenberg, now part of the city of Friesoythe.
After her first profession, she became a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Münster and worked as a ward nurse in Metelen and Ramsdorf from 1958 to 1987. She then completed her training in Community Nursing at Arenberg near Koblenz and worked at the Social Service Center in Kluse-Steinfeld. She tirelessly traveled throughout the large parish to accompany the sick and dying. Afterward, she took care of our Community in Gronau-Epe and cared for the convent chapel. In 2010, Sister M. Valcaria returned to the Motherhouse due to her advanced age and lived as a senior resident at St. Heriburg House beginning in 2013.
She loved being part of the small community in the residential group, but found it increasingly difficult to make herself understood. It gave her great joy to watch the flowers and birds in the garden outside her window. That’s when her eyes would light up.
In the presence of her fellow sisters, Sister M. Valcaria, at the age of 99, returned her life to the Good Shepherd, who had accompanied her on her journey.
We bid Sister M. Valcaria a grateful farewell. In prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist, we remember her and remain united with her in sisterly love. On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, we will bid her farewell during the Resurrection Mass at 10 a.m. in the Motherhouse Church, and then accompany her to her final resting place in the Sisters’ Cemetery.
